This week’s improv comes from the (short) Chapel Recitals that the Duquesne University Music School has for the organ students. Though I’m adjunct faculty, sometimes I do recitals as well. This particular recital was this single improvisation based on the 44th Psalm, verses 10-15. It’s an impression of the psalm, not a textual improvisation. I also didn’t have a form in mind as I wanted the form to rise naturally out of the music. It starts off a little slow, but gets moving quickly enough.
