Composer’s remarks:
This work was a finalist in the 2012 Kansas City AGO Composition Competition, though it was revised shortly after the competition. The work attempts to be appealing to a general audience while being playable by any organist. The challenge for this particular work was to keep it relatively easy for a long period of time. Applying a number of techniques was necessary, including keeping the piece within the constraints of the Sonata-Allegro form. The work was given an official premier at Stephanie Barth’s (nee Sloan) Senior Organ Recital at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in April 2015.
